Principal's Message

Friday, August 5, 2022

Happy August Taylor families! I hope that the last month has brought opportunities for you to relax, enjoy a break from technology and outside activities! While I don’t want to wish anyone’s summer away, I do have some important updates for you to read so that you know what to expect over the next few weeks as we approach the 22-23 school year ahead.

Summer Mailings: We have set our summer mailing date for Friday, August 19, which means you’ll start to see your student’s teacher assignment hit your mailboxes the following week and remember, delivery dates vary based on zip code.  There have been a few assignment changes for teachers for the fall and we are welcoming several new teachers to our Taylor community.  While you await your large, white envelopes, I encourage you to visit our website to see which of our amazing teachers will be teaching your student’s grade level in the fall:

Supply lists: In case you want to get a jump start on school shopping, you can find our grade level supply lists here:

Family handbook: Attached is the 22-23 student/family handbook which provides all sorts of Taylor-specific information for you to be aware of, including new procedures for volunteering and visiting.  Feel free to peruse digitally or print and keep nearby!

Kindergarten school bus orientation: Also attached is a flier  from our transportation department inviting our newest kindergarteners to a school bus orientation on either Wednesday, August 31 or Thursday, September 1.  Check out the details!

Printed calendar: I am hoping that by now, you have received a copy of the 2022 Spencerport School District calendar in the mail.  In case you need another copy, I have attached here as well, and you can always find this posted on our website.

Welcoming back volunteers: I am excited to announce that we are ready to welcome volunteers back into our schools! Please see  Here are the essential details for you to be aware of:

-     All volunteers must be certified through our volunteer office.  If you haven’t completed our volunteer orientation or have any questions, please contact Christina Bowerman, our community programs director at 349-5681 or at [email protected]

-     Volunteer opportunities are at teachers’ discretion, and not every teacher has opportunities within their classrooms.  Any request for volunteers will come directly from teachers and they are responsible for notifying our greeter no less than 24 hours in advance.  This will allow teachers to communicate with our greeter so that the school is aware of and prepared for your arrival.

-     All volunteers must bring identification and check in with our greeter through our Raptor Visitor Management System.

Meet and Greet: As we do each year, Taylor will open its doors the day before school begins on Tuesday, September 6 from 2- 3 p.m. for a quick meet and greet for students.  We hope you get to stop by, drop off your supplies for the first day of school and get to meet your new teacher!

That’s all for now, but I will send out another update two weeks from now to coincide with our summer mailing.  Until then, enjoy August!
