Principal's Message

May 26, 2023

Dear families,

The year is flying by and I have several reminders for you this week and thank you for your attention. I know the Pincelli family calendar is certainly full this time of year!

Early Release: Please remember that today, the entire district will be engaging in an early release drill, and students will be headed home 15 minutes early. PreK and BOCES dismissals are on their usual schedules.

Please see the schedule below for grades K-5 and thanks for your support:

  • 3:10 pm: Those students getting picked up. Please bring ID and enter at door 21
  • 3:30 pm: Buses leave Taylor and follow normal routes (students should arrive 15 minutes early to their usual drop off location)

Half Day: Next Thursday, June 1 is a half-day for grades PreK – 8:

o   For students in grades K-5: While breakfast will remain available as normal, students will not be served lunch and they will not have specials on this day.  Those who are being picked up will be called down to the cafeteria beginning at 11:30 am, and those taking the bus will be dismissed shortly after with buses rolling away from the building and on their way home around 12:00 pm.  If you are planning on picking up your child on this half-day, please send in a note ahead of time so that we can prepare for the busiest dismissal of the year, and we will open our doors to have you sign your child out at 11:30 am.  As is our normal daily practice, no bus passes will be issued, so unless we have a pick up note, your child will take his/her normal bus home.

o   For our PreK students: Please keep in mind that your students have a half-day on both Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2 where designated pick-up persons can arrive at our main door (Door 1) around 11:10 for dismissal

o   Instructionally, the morning of June 1 marks the return of a favorite student activity: enrichment clusters!  Mrs. Heberger, enrichment specialist, has been diligently working with our staff to provide offerings that are informed by our students’ interests.

We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. Our parents, staff and community have clearly communicated to us that mental health and student behavior must be a priority in our work. Building our social-emotional learning skills has been an integral part of this effort, and last fall, we asked your child to reflect on their own experiences and approaches to learning via an online survey. We will be giving this survey again on June 13, 2023.  The survey shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to complete. The SEL student survey data will be particularly helpful to ensure that the social and emotional learning actions are impactful, and decide whether to continue or change what we are doing. We are reflecting on our strengths and areas for growth based on the aggregate data, and will be using this to inform initiatives we will be putting into place in the future. We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential, similar to other academic or attendance data.

After we have collected student responses, school personnel will collaborate on the following items:

·    What are ways we can innovate to be more effective and equitable?

·    Does the data suggest that any of our practices are ineffective? How could they be changed?

·    What does this data make us think about in terms of our practice? About teaching and learning in general.

If you have any questions about this survey, please contact our Director of Student Services, Tim O'Connor, at (585) 349-5151 or [email protected]. If you wish not to have your child take this survey, please contact me directly.

Last but not least, there are many special events that may be communicated by your student’s teacher but here a few to ensure are on your calendars:

  • Memorial Day: Monday, May 23- No School
  • Field Day: Friday, June 9- Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle
  • Flag Day: Wednesday, June 14 – Wear your red, white and blue
  • 5th grade Seabreeze Trip: Thursday, June 15
